Introduction
In 1954 Houghton was asked to develop the world's first fire-resistant hydraulic fluid for the US navy following a fire and explosion aboard the USS Benington. The new technology was called Houghto-Safe and has remained an industry standard for over half a century of development.
Houghto-Safe quickly found other applications in other high risk areas and today Houghton's fluid power products guarantee safety for personnel and plant in a diverse range of industries including diecasting, steel and aluminium processing, defence, mining, food and offshore.
The world leading range includes Houghto-Safe water glycols and phosphate esters, Cosmolubric polyol esters, Hydrolubric 5/95 fluids and Hydra-Vis thickened micro-emulsion.
